The Goddess Ostara & The Easter Bunny

Who is Ostara?

What is the connection with the Easter Bunny?

Wait! Explain the connection between a bunny and EGGS?

Ostara is the goddess of Dawn, she is responsible for the bringing of Spring each year.

One year, she arrived terribly late and full of guilt. In addition to being late, she arrived to find a pitiful bird who lays dying, wings frozen by the snow. Lovingly, Ostara cradled the shivering bird and saved his life. She even made him her pet.

Though, she felt guilty that he could no longer fly, the goddess turned him into a BUNNY! A snow hare named, Lepus. Ostara gifted Lepus speed so he may get away from those who would hunt him.

As a means to honor his previous form as a bird, Ostara gave him the ability to lay eggs of all colors, though, this would only occur one day of the year. Wasn't long before Lepus befriended another bunny, to which he was found kissing. Ostara felt a sense of betrayal and grew angry seeing this. With that anger, she flung him into the sky where he would remain for eternity. However, Ostara was so fond of their memories together, she would allow Lepus to return to Earth for one day so he may offer his colorful eggs to the children attending Ostara festivals.
